Ruth Kolman Brophy is a visual artist working in a number of media in a unique, personal style.
Her experiences as child in Nazi occupied Austria during the Second World War exposed her to some of the darkest, most villainous aspects of her fellows, but it also gave her an unshakeable sense of optimism and an appreciation of the courage and heroism of ordinary people.
Details of the old buildings that surrounded her make their appearance in her work, as curves and parabola.
Living in the US for many years has infused her work with a lively energy, a sense of rhythm and movement, and above all a love of color. Her strong sense of design and balance is influenced by 20th century modern design.
Her abstract paintings and her digital works use intense color and a swooping meandering line to impart joy, love and a zest for life.
Her work is in the collection of the University of Minnesota, Macalester College and in many private collections
